Being overweight is a big health problem and there really are solutions to much of it. Most involve dieting and exercise to both reduce calorie intake and to cause the body to start burning off excess fat reserves. Certainly there are more drastic methods such as surgery or liposuction.

People who are overweight are more susceptible to cancer, heart disease, diabetes and a great number of other health issues. People who are more than one hundred pounds overweight are considered to be "mortally obese" or at very serious risk of many diseases and conditions.

For many people the issue of being overweight comes from eating too much and lack of exercise. This in turn often comes from emotional issues or depression. For these people both problems serve to continue the other. You eat because you are depressed and your body feels worse and you become more depressed.

The lack of exercise can add to the weight problem but also it significantly reduces you overall health. It is important for many reasons that you get 30 minutes of physical activity each day and that you should make that a 30-minute session instead of splitting up through the day. With this minimum of exercise you help to increase the amount of oxygen that reaches the various organs, burn calories, reduce insulin levels (reduce the fat storing process) and it has been proven to help fight depression.

The problem most overweight people state is that a diet only works while you are on it and their weight will go up and down. No diet is the cure to obesity! A diet can help you to control your calorie intake and with proper exercise added you build a healthy body and mind. The most successful stories of weight loss come from programs that consider the whole person by supporting them completely.
