Weight Watchers
This is a program that uses a point system to help you manage your calorie intake and physical activity. Base on properties of different types of food such as fiber, fat and calories each type of food is assigned an amount of points per servings.
You can eat that slice of pizza but it will cost you 9 points. When starting the program you are assigned an allowed amount of points that you can eat. Your initial points allotment is based on your weight to ideal weight at the start. This allows you to eat what you like including sweets.
Some examples of points assigned to foods would be the above pizza at 9 points per slice, beer at three points and a single scoop of ice cream at only 4 points. Healthier foods that are better for you such as grapes costing only 1 point are encouraged.
As you loose weight your points allotment is actually reduced and a smaller body requires less food and we are generally eating far more than we really need to unless we have extremely physically demanding occupations.
To help you stay on track there is of course a number of features to this program. You are given a journal to track you daily points totals for each meal and snack you eat. You are also provided with meal planners for low point meals, low point recipes and a guide to distributing your points throughout the day.
There are many support groups across the U.S. where you can share tips, advice, recipes and in general support each other in developing a healthier way to eat and live.
